About Peppermint 1.5 – “Extended Release”

OK, so here I am and I thought I should let everyone know what’s currently going on.

I know you’ve been used to be receiving updates every 2 or 3 days (mostly what I’d call “nightly builds”, in between major releases). However, this is not going to be the case for 1.5 and the actual release may be a bit delayed (though I’m doing my very best to get it ready before Christmas time or even earlier) – thanks for your understanding!

With the very warm welcome it has received (thanks a lot guys!), since its first release, Peppermint has grown a lot. And I thought this would be the perfect time to address some subtle (although long-standing issues), at its core, before it is too… late, and re-set the foundations to make it as robust and steel-stable as possible for the coming releases.

So, 1.5 is going to be a big one. There may not be any added features (or just a small number of them), or any huge (visible) changes, but it’s definitely going to be worth the wait.

Some of the issues that are going to be addressed:

  • General document management
  • Reconsideration of the Tabs’ role + Redesign
  • Small tweaks regarding the File Sidebar (Workspace)
  • Bottom panel (mainly the “Search” part) migration to a more… native format
  • Keybinding adjustments
  • And more…

If you have any suggestion/idea on the above, please just let me know – now is the time!

P.S. Unrelated suggestions or maybe ideas for some plugin or syntax addition are welcome too – although the top priorities will be the above. For anything you may come up with, please feel free to use the Issues page on GitHub (it helps keeping everything organized! :-))
